Joanne Ninesling, Bill Caypless, William Lane and Sid Hare on Wednesday of last week floated the Little Tallapoosa River between the Lamar Bridge on County Road 59 and the Shelton Bridge on County Road 51. They saw many wood ducks, several hawks, and one very unexpected sunbathing alligator.
Their mission was to clear a campground and put up a sign for the Alabama Scenic River Trail. According to Sid Hare, the group did not get as much done as they had hoped, but it was a beautiful day, the river was moving at a fast clip and they all had a marvelous time. They planned another work party for Tuesday of this week.
Hare said that for future excursions they need someone with a strong back to run his chainsaw and several other adventuresome individuals with sharp machetes and a great sense of humor. Anyone who wants to help should call him at 334-646-0108.
