WEDOWEE--On the agenda for the Randolph County Commission workshop on Thursday afternoon will be what must happen for Randolph County to receive Alabama television stations from satellite providers.
Ken Conaway of Wedowee has put forth much effort toward this and will update the commissioners at the 3 p.m. workshop.
Conaway told the Leader this week that the Satellite Television Extension & Localism Reauthorization Act (STELAR) was published in the Federal Register on Friday, Oct. 2. Legislation was signed by the president and published by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). However, this process could take into 2016 to complete.
He explained that Birmingham stations must agree to allow Dish Network and DirecTV to include Randolph County in the Birmingham market and agree on an acceptable fee from the satellite companies. Unlike in the past, Atlanta stations cannot stop the signal, but Birmingham has to agree to provide it.
